“Với thất bại 1-2 trên sân nhà ở lượt đi, Philippines cần ghi ít nhất hai bàn tại Hà Nội để đi tiếp”, ký giả Noel Villaflor của SunStar viết. “Nhưng Philippines yếu trong khâu ghi bàn. Bộ tứ vệ Carlie de Murga, Alvaro Silva, Martin Steuble và Adam Reed không được phép sai lầm khi Việt Nam sẽ đánh phủ đầu hòng tìm bàn thắng sớm”, ký giả Cedelf Tupas nhận định khi đang có mặt tại Hà Nội.
“Hàng thủ Việt Nam lần đầu bị xuyên thủng ở lượt đi, bởi bàn thắng của Patrick Reichelt – cầu thủ đang có phong độ cao. Nhưng Philippines vẫn sẽ gặp nhiều khó khăn nếu muốn phá lưới đối phương thêm một lần nữa”, Tupas viết thêm.
Hai tờ báo đều thừa nhận niềm đam mê bóng đá của hai nước có sự chênh lệch thấy rõ. Người Việt Nam tôn sùng bóng đá cũng như người Philippines tin yêu bóng rổ. Dẫu vậy, họ vẫn hy vọng đội nhà tái hiện được điều kỳ diệu năm 2010, khi hạ Việt Nam với tỷ số 2-0 cũng tại Mỹ Đình.
